PE – (Polyethylene)

PE, also known as polyethylene, is one of the most widely used industrial plastics due to several properties.

Polyethylene becomes UV-resistant through the addition of additives in the production process. It is also minimally susceptible to oxidation or corrosion. Being a thermoplastic, polyethylene is highly recyclable, as it can be remelted and reused. Depending on the raw materials used, polyethylene is generally usable from -50°C to +80°C.

Production Process

Polyethylene is created through the polymerization of the hydrocarbon ethylene, forming a long chain of similar ethylene molecules. Each individual molecule is called a monomer, and a chain of individual molecules is called a polymer.

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

HDPE is characterized by high crystallinity and density (HD), with a density between 0.94 g/cm³ and 0.97 g/cm³. Thanks to its high crystallinity, HDPE has greater rigidity, hardness, strength, wear resistance (due to high elongation at break), and better resistance to higher temperatures and chemicals.

HDPE has a non-polar surface, making it unsuitable for gluing but excellent for welding. HDPE remains dimensionally stable at temperatures from -50°C to +80°C and is resistant to most alkaline media, acids, and solvents.

Profilplast’s PE Product Range

HDPE is a popular material for making piping systems for gas, drinking water, and sewage. Polyethylene is a very tough material, making it exceptionally suitable for pipes under significant pressure. PE sheet material is widely used for making tanks, dosing cabinets, and other structural components. Additionally, PE is extremely suitable for outdoor applications due to its chemical resistance and UV stability.

Profilplast supplies all the components needed for PE piping systems and has an extensive range of PE sheet and rod materials.

Profilplast holds various certifications for PE, including those from the BFR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
